Acacia Grove:
Concert
Information:
Acacia
Grove formed midsummer 1998. It then consisted of
Mitch Guthrie (guitar), Derek Smith (keyboard),
Adam Sweeney (guitar), and Chris Judd (bass).
Chris has since switched to drums, and Darick
Baker signed on as bassist. Zach Pace serves as
an alternate keyboardist. We play a unique brand
of acoustic-based rock music, with influences
that include Jars of Clay, U2, Counting Crows,
and Switchfoot. We are all Christians interested in writing and performing songs that show people our perspective on life. It's been our goal from the start to gain an audience that will be drawn to our music and, in turn, be made to think about the Christian themes behind it. Once formed, we were faced with the dilemma of choosing a name. It came down to either "Sheep People" or "Acacia Grove", and thankfully we chose the latter. The name comes from the Bible and is the place where the Isrealites waited while checking out the promised land. There's also a nice blessing in Joel that goes: "And it will come to pass in that day that the mountains shall drip with new wine, the hills shall flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; a fountain shall flow from the house of the Lord and water the Valley of Acacias." Joel 3:18. So, it's saying that we get all our life and ability from God, as well as His blessings. Acacia Grove has done several single-song performances at Bethel Church in Chehalis. They have performed live on the KCED Fresh Music Show out of Centralia College, and they played an acoustic set for the KCED Local Band Showcase on CC-TV. They have recently played with such Christian acts as Good Mud (Portland, OR) and Kim Walling (Tacoma, WA) as well as appearing at W.F. West High School's Oktoberfest, the Lewis County Cancer Walk, the Chehalis Music and Arts Festival, and the Southwest Washington Fair. They have recently released an album entitled "Rule 1a". The album's title comes from the band's personal practice rules. Rule
1a: Pray before doing anything. |
